Sim-to-Real

The process of training an AI model entirely in a fast, safe virtual simulation and successfully transferring that learned behavior to the physical world.

Think of It Like This

Like learning to fly a jet perfectly in a highly realistic video game simulator before ever stepping foot into a real cockpit.

This is crucial for robotics, where trial-and-error in the real world is incredibly slow, expensive, and dangerous. The massive challenge is the 'reality gap'—the inevitable differences in friction, lighting, or physics between the sim and reality. Techniques like domain randomization are used to make the model robust to these discrepancies.
